Briggs & Stratton Corporation - Engine Power Products Group

The Briggs and Stratton Corporation in Rolla, Missouri submitted a series of Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) letters beginning in August 2006 and continuing through September 2007.  Approximately 800 workers will have lost their jobs by the scheduled plant closing date of February 2008.

Rapid Response meetings were conducted for all plant personnel beginning in August 2006 through May 2007.  Career Options workshops were held July 24 - 25, 2007.  All workers are eligible for outplacement services under the Dislocated Worker Program.  In addition, a National Emergency Grant (NEG) in the amount of $ 1.3 million was applied for by the Missouri Division of Workforce Development and approved by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to provide additional assistance to Briggs & Stratton, Affinia Brake Parts (Cuba), and AMF Biliards and Games (Bland) workers.  Workers should visit their nearest Missouri Career Center for more information.

Briggs & Stratton, Affinia Brake Parts and AMF have also been Trade Certified by DOL under Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA).  Workers should visit their local Missouri Career Center to apply for TAA benefits.

These combined programs offer career couseling, help in finding a new job, scholarship and training opportunities, among many other services, including transportation, testing and comprehensive assessment.
